The HSM has been designed to :

• Enable human skill development

• Teach human skills by turning what is often a list of skills into learning competencies and breaking those competencies down into can do statements

• Underpin learning materials so that learners can complete activities that help them to gain the skills

• Give people the language to describe the skills they have gained, the knowledge to understand what those skills look like in terms of behaviours, and the evidence to show what they have learned

• Act as a tool for educators and employers to apply to existing human skills training programmes, subject content, and job descriptions to identify and communicate the human skills content 

• Support the recruitment and selection process so that candidates understand what human skills are desirable and develop those they need, and so that employers can accurately assess what they are looking for and identify the evidence when recruiting
