Learning from the Masters : shaping a human future
We promised we would share the inspiration behind our company name, and - no surprise for co-founders who hold degrees in anthropology and history, and literature - it involves an ancient story of human endeavour...
We have drawn inspiration from ancient Rome, and more specifically, Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, master architect. He used the human body to explain proportions and identified what is now known as the 'Vitruvian Triad': 3 qualities a building must possess:
Firmitas - strength, durability
Utilitas - usefulness, function
Venustas - attractiveness
A few centuries later, Leonardo Da Vinci was himself inspired by Vitruvius' work on proportions and created his 'Vitruvian Man' illustration, believing that the workings of the human body were a useful analogy for the workings of the universe. He placed his human figure within a circle and a square, to link humans to both the cosmos and the earth.
As a female-led business, we chose 'Vitruvia' to take Vitruvius' work into the 21st century and apply his principles to the teaching of human skills. We chose an Ammonoid within a grid in homage to both Da Vinci's circles and squares and Vitruvius' triad.
With an evidence-based portfolio of human skills gained courtesy of our programmes, a career starter can become a strong, useful and attractive proposition to the world of work.
Vitruvia offers the stable foundation of universally needed and recognised human skills training in these volatile and uncertain times.
